Cumberland Football Boosters Donate $5000 to MSAD #51
The following is the letter from Bob King, President of the Cumberland Football Boosters, to the MSAD 51 School Board, presented on November 16, 2009.
Good evening, my name is Bob King, President of the Cumberland Football Boosters.
I am here representing the boosters and the football community to make a donation to SAD #51 to help offset the cost of the new bleachers at the High School Varsity Field.
First a little history, we have over 180 students participating in football this year from kindergarten thru high school seniors, football is a “pay to participate” activity at all levels. Along with collecting fees to participate, we do a number of fundraising events throughout the year to offset our $55,000 annual budget.
Over the last few years the football boosters have made contributions to the facilities at Greely High School that not only benefit football players but all students at Greely High School. These include over $5,000 donated to the upkeep and improvement of the weight room, the $14,000 donation from a football family to have the scoreboard installed at the varsity field, $500 for the new sound system and $250 for the “Sarge” mascot(the last two being joint efforts with other booster groups). Also at the end of October, our Vice President, Jim Guidi organized an approximate $3,000 donation of time and materials from several contractors and individuals to install a patio of brick pavers in the “grilling area” outside the snack shack at the varsity field.
So, in continuing our support of the facilities at Greely High School, the Cumberland Football Boosters are pleased to donate five thousand dollars ($5,000) to help offset the cost of the bleachers at the Varsity Field. We feel this is both a generous contribution in light of the economic times and that we are a full “pay to participate” sport at Greely and one that will benefit not only football but all sports that play on the Varsity Field.
In conclusion, I must say the work on the Varsity Field has not gone unnoticed; I received many favorable comments not only from folks in our own community but many from our visiting fans throughout the season. It is both comfortable and a joy to watch games at the field.
